Title

Egg Shell Project

Problem Scenario

This Idea of The Project Just Like Popped In My Head. I Was Thinking About Soda When It Popped In My Head.
So JBES (Josiah Bartlett Elementary School) We Went To The State Science Fair And I Saw Someone Have this Project, But She Did Not Have Two Liquids To Test She Only Had I Liquid.

Broad Question

Which boiled egg shell comes off faster?

Specific Question

Which boiled egg shell comes off faster an eggs in vinegar or an egg in Coco Cola?

Hypothesis

I think the vinegar will make the eggs shell come off faster because it's a stronger kind a liquid. Vinegar has stronger ingredients.

Variables

Independent Variable:

The time when the egg is put in the vinegar and put in the soda.

Dependent Variable:

The time both eggs are taken out of both liquid

Variables That Need To Be Controlled:

The Size Of The Egg, The Brand Of The Eggs, And White Shell Eggs.

Vocabulary List That Needs Explanation

General Plan

My General Plan Is To Boil The 2 Eggs. Then I Would Put The 2 Eggs In 2 Liquids, Vanilla Coca Cola And Vinegar. Then I Will Wait 4 to 7 Minutes, Then I Will Take The Eggs Out To See Which Egg Has No Shell Anymore.

Potential Problems And Solutions

Problem 1- Something Could Spill
Solution 1- Be Very Careful
Problem 2- Eggs Might Crack

Safety Or Environmental Concerns

Don't put face in or near the vinegar, Don't drink the soda being used for the experiment,

Experimental Design

(add the correct headings from the experimental design page before beginning)

What is your experimental unit?

This is the base unit of your experiment, for example, one plant, one ice cube, one dish. It is the thing you will be measuring.
My Base Of My Experiment Is One Egg.

Number Of Trials:

This is how many times you will repeat the experiment.
I Will Repeat This Experiment Twice.

Number Of Subjects In Each trial:

This is the number of different treatments you will use. For example, if you are comparing rust formation using salt and no salt, there would be 2 subjects in each trial. If you were comparing rust formation with no salt and three different amounts of salt, then you would have 4 subjects in each trial.
2 Eggs

Number of Observations:

How many measurements will you take for each experimental unit times the number or trials
4

When data will be collected

Looking for an actual date or dates here. This is requiring you to commit to your project.
2/18 Is When I Will Start My Experiment And 2/21 Is When I Will End My Experiment.

Where will data be collected?:

Be specific.
The Data Will Be Collect At My House.

Detailed Procedure

Step 1- Get a Pot
Step 2- Fill The Pot To About Half Way
Step 3- Turn on The Burner
Step 4- Put The Pot With Water In It on The Burner That Is On
Step 5- Put 4 Eggs Inside The Pot
Step 6- Get 4 Clear Cups
Step 7- Poor Vinegar In 2 Of The Cups
Step 8- Poor Vanilla Coca Cola In The Other 2 Cups
Step 9- Get The 4 Eggs Out Of The Pot After Being Boiled
Step 10- Put 2 Eggs In The Vinegar
Step 11- Put 2 Eggs In The Vanilla Coca Cola
Step 12- Record The Differences Of The 2 Eggs
Step 13- Wait For 1 Of The Eggs Shell Comes Completely Off
Step 14- When 1 Of The Eggs Shell Comes Completely Off You Record Which Liquid Made The Shell Come Off Faster
Step 15- Enjoy The Experiment

Data Analysis

All Raw Data

The Egg In Vinegar Was The Egg That Lost It's Egg Shell. The Eggs Lost It's Egg Shell 24 hours after I Put The Egg In The Vinegar And Vanilla Coca-Cola.

Results

The Results Were That The Eggs In Vinegar Won. The Egg In Vinegar Lost It's Shell Faster Than The Egg In Vanilla Coca-Cola.

Conclusion

My hypothesis was correct. It was correct because I hypothesized that the vinegar will dissolve the egg shell faster than vanilla coca-cola. I put the egg in the vinegar the egg shell almost had bubbles on almost instantly. When I put the egg in vanilla coca-cola the egg just stayed there until the egg shell turned brown. When I put the egg in the boiling bowl the egg accidentally cracked. The crack in the egg gave me a heads up on how the coca-cola is doing to the egg shell. The crack got darker as the coca-cola dissolved the egg shell.

Discussion

The reason for me doing this experiment is it seemed interesting to me when I first saw the expriment at the Valley Wide Science Fair.
